Youth Appreciation 2022

On Thursday, April 7th, guests from Blanchet Catholic School joined the club’s meeting virtually for a Youth Appreciation celebration. Students Vanessa Cervantes Hernandez, Sarai Castillo, Ismael (Izzy) Lopez Manuel, and Braeden Duffy were recognized for their outstanding achievements.

Below are synopses of each student. The club enjoyed learning about and talking with these exceptional students.

Vanessa Cervantes Hernandez

Vocational Tech and Humanities

Vanessa is one of the top students in the class of 2022! And while her grades shine, she's also very active in clubs and activities at Blanchet. She's involved with Faith in Action, Friends of Benedictine, National Honor Society, Orchestra, Drama, and Blanchet International Thespian Society. She also participated in soccer, basketball, and softball. Vanessa's favorite quote is There is no formula for success, except perhaps an unconditional acceptance of life and what it brings. Vanessa was involved behind the scenes running soundboard and doing other tasks for the school's spring show, Arsenic and Old Lace. She would like to become a radiology technician, probably at OIT.

Sarai Castillo

Ms. Optimist

Sarai always has a smile on her face! Her favorite quote is Happiness is not by chance but by choice. Sarai is involved with Blanchet's Friends of Benedictine Club, Spirit Club, Spirituality Team, and Students for Change. She played soccer and also does tech for Blanchet's drama department. In her free time, she enjoys making pottery to relax. Sarai plans to study marine biology at either OSU or U of O.

Ismael (Izzy) Lopez Manuel

Most Involved in Community Service

Izzy is involved in so many activities at Blanchet. He's played on the tennis team, participated in DECA, Spirituality Team, Student Council, and Outdoor Club. Izzy is a rockstar student who is also a member of our national honor society. Wherever help is needed, you will find Izzy volunteering there! He loves to cook and plans to attend the Culinary Institute of America.

Braeden Duffy

Mr. Optimist

Braeden is Blanchet's Mr. Optimist and we feel he embodies all the ideals of the Optimist Club! Never without a smile or kind words, Braeden is always looking for the bright side. He played varsity football, basketball, and tennis for Blanchet. In his free time, he enjoys playing X-Box with his friends. Braeden plans to attend Chemeketa Community College first, then study elsewhere for a degree in Education; his hope is to teach either high school history or P.E.
